In 2016 Bishop Eridard Nsubuga and Directorate of Education Secretary Dr. Paul Kakooza from Luweero Diocese realized how important ICT will become in the future and decided to look for some ICT support for their private Church Secondary Schools.
The diocese already had a good partnership with german NGO Christian Services International ( now coworkers) and invited Mdm Barbara Sacher and her husband to Luweero. Barbara was an experienced program developper working for long years in Germany and had a heart for ICT. Together with counterpart Isaac Ogwal they organized many trainings for ICT teachers in Luweero Diocese and Barbara helped many schools with solarpower installations and Hardware. Because of Covid 19 lockdowns they couldn’t work in schools as they planned, but created many videos and tutorials for Microsoft OfficeApplications and uploaded them in the Offline Library Kolibri.
In 2022 another coworker from Germany Mdm Claudia Duerr continued the work of Barbara and started installations of Offline Libraries in different schools and ICT trainings. Claudia was an ICT consultant for the german industry for many years and loves ICT trainings. In 2023 the ICT team is starting ICT trainings for all teachers in different pilot schools.
In addition to the ICT project CoU Luweero Diocese and coworkers Germany started another cooperation in ECCE Early Childhood Care Education and Mdm Heidi Braun came in 2018. Together with a local team they visited ECCE sections in many Primary Schools in LD and started a new way of teaching the youngest children. Instead of sitting for hours on little chairs or ground in huge classes they provided a daily program with different activities like singing, free playing and outdoor activities. Together with the ECCE teachers they created playing materials out of local resources and emphasized on the importance of “Learning while playing”. During the long COVID lockdown the ECCE team produced many videos about easy games, learning numbers and letters with songs and playing. Meanwhile the coworker from Germany has left but ECCE specialist Faith Nambatya and colleague are continuing the good work and training ECCE teachers in all LD.
